How Alnico Magnets are Made?

Sep 28, 2023

Alnico magnets are made by sintering or casting an aluminum, nickel, and cobalt alloy. To increase the magnetic force, iron, copper, or titanium are added. The traditional method of casting involves pouring a molten mixture into a mold, which is typically made of resin-bonded sand. Casting Alnico magnets are larger and have better magnetic properties and performance than sintering Alnico magnets.
Cast alnico magnets can be designed and manufactured into complex shapes, configurations, and forms that sintering cannot. Alnico magnets, whether sintering or casting, are too brittle and difficult to work cold and must be formed using heated raw materials. The chemical composition of an alnico magnet's mixture determines its grade.
