Prices of rare earth varieties such as praseodymium and neodymium have risen sharply

A few days ago, it was learned from the industry that the prices of rare earth varieties such as praseodymium neodymium and gadolinium, which have continued to rise since the beginning of this year, have risen sharply again.

Based on the data of multiple institutions, the price of praseodymium and neodymium oxide was 370,000 yuan to 380,000 yuan / ton on the 24th, a weekly increase of 2.7%, and the price of metal praseodymium and neodymium was 465,000 yuan to 475,000 yuan / ton, a weekly increase of 2.2%. . The latest price of gadolinium oxide is close to 90,000 yuan / ton, with a weekly increase of more than 5%.

Another source said that the prices of rare earth products such as dysprosium oxide and lutetium oxide have also risen significantly.

Since the beginning of this year, the price of rare earth has risen well, and the cumulative increase of praseodymium and neodymium oxide has exceeded 40%. Industry insiders believe that, on the one hand, there is a gap in the supply of praseodymium and neodymium this year when scrap and rare earth "blackmail" is strictly prohibited. On the other hand, the demand for NdFeB in new energy vehicles and intelligent manufacturing industry has increased, and the price of praseodymium and neodymium will continue to rise in the later period. The price increase of dysprosium oxide products has the factors of capital operation.

According to the reporter's understanding, in July and September this year, the relevant departments will also carry out two rounds of rare earth purchase and storage.

Wu Xiaofeng, a rare earth analyst at Shanghai Nonferrous Metals Network, believes that the recent price increase of some rare earth varieties is also related to the reluctance to sell upstream and the hype on the supply side.

NdPr products are the most important raw materials in the rare earth permanent magnet industry, accounting for about 60% to 70% of the cost of NdFeB products. It is understood that the average profit margin of the rare earth permanent magnet industry in 2016 is 5% to 6%. The accelerated price increase has greatly increased the raw material cost of the rare earth permanent magnet industry, which has brought great benefits to the normal production and operation of NdFeB enterprises. pressure.

Recently, Chen Zhanheng, a spokesman for the China Rare Earth Industry Association, said that the application of rare earth permanent magnets in new energy vehicles and other fields has shown a good momentum. In the first half of the year, the output of rare earth permanent magnet enterprises generally increased by 10% to 30%. It is necessary to prevent the situation that rare earth prices soar in 2011 and then continue to plummet again.
