AlNiCo (AlNiCo) permanent magnets, how much do you know?
About the aluminum nickel cobalt (AlNiCo) in the magnet, I think many of my friends have never heard of it, mainly because this kind of magnet is relatively less involved in our daily life, and we have little contact and naturally don’t know much about it. Today, this article focuses on the The advantages and disadvantages of AlNiCo magnets, AlNiCo classification, applications, machinable shapes, anti-demagnetization and its performance grade table.
Let's talk about its characteristics first. It is an alloy composed of aluminum, nickel, cobalt, iron and other trace metal elements. It has the characteristics of high energy, high induction, high residual magnetic flux density, good corrosion resistance and high temperature resistance.
What kinds of AlNiCo permanent magnets are there?
It can be mainly divided into two categories: cast AlNiCo and sintered AlNiCo. The shapes of cast AlNiCo magnets can be diversified and complicated. The mechanical dimensional tolerances of sintered AlNiCo can be controlled more precisely.
What are the applications of AlNiCo magnets?
Next, let’s talk about their applications. Cast AlNiCo products are mainly used in automotive parts, instrumentation, electroacoustics, motors, teaching, aerospace and military and other fields. Sintered AlNiCo is widely used in motors (now gradually being replaced) Instrumentation, communication, magnetoelectric switches and various sensors.
What shapes can Alnico magnets be processed into?
The shapes that can be produced are cylindrical, circular, rectangular, flat, tile, and horseshoe.
How are AlNiCo permanent magnet materials generally processed and produced?
AlNiCo permanent magnet materials have low mechanical strength, high hardness, brittleness, and poor machinability. Only a small amount of grinding or EDM can be performed during processing, and forging and other mechanical processing cannot be used.
What are the advantages of AlNiCo permanent magnets?
It has the advantages of high remanence (up to 1.35T) and low temperature coefficient. When the temperature coefficient is -0.02% °C, its maximum temperature can reach about 520 °C.
What are its shortcomings?
The intrinsic coercivity of AlNiCo is very low, usually less than 160 kA/m, its demagnetization curve is a nonlinear change, and the return line of the AlNiCo permanent magnet does not coincide with the demagnetization curve, so it is necessary to design and manufacture the magnetic circuit of the device. Special attention should be paid to its particularity, and the permanent magnet must be stabilized beforehand. According to the characteristics of low coercivity of AlNiCo permanent magnet material, it is strictly forbidden to contact with any ferromagnetic material during use, so as to avoid local irreversible demagnetization or distortion of magnetic flux density distribution. In addition, in order to strengthen its anti-demagnetization ability, the AlNiCo permanent magnet magnetic pole face is often designed to be a long cylinder or a rod.
What is the density of AlNiCo?
The density of AlNiCo magnets is around 7.0-7.3g/cm3.
