Effect of Magnets on Brain

Effect of Magnets on Brain

Researchers at Feinberg Medical School of Northwestern University used a method called transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) to treat a potential non drug treatment of refractory depression. Changes the memory function of the adult brain. Cognitive skills affect everything we do. We've all heard about how to sleep well and improve our performance, including proper diet and exercise. But neuroscientists have discovered techniques to improve brain memory. Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) manipulates brain activity in the surface regions of the brain. Targeting specific parts of the brain with magnetic pulses may be a non-invasive way to improve memory.

The initial aim of the study was to determine whether it was possible to manipulate the brain networks associated with memory and whether such manipulation could enhance memory. The researchers hypothesized that memory events require multiple brain regions to work cooperatively with parts of the hippocampus associated with memory. If there is a way to stimulate these regions, they can synchronize well, thus improving memory and cognitive ability. In the experiment, participants received TMS brain stimulation for 20 minutes every day for 20 consecutive days.

TMS uses electromagnetic pulses to stimulate brain regions. It is usually uninjured and has a slight knock. Researchers have stimulated brain regions involved in memory networks. The results showed that after about three days, the stimulation improved memory. In addition, MRI showed that TMS could further synchronize brain regions.
