What Is an Alnico Magnet?

Many people who are new to the world of magnets may wonder what an AlNiCo magnet is and what an Alnico magnet is used for. Alnico (aluminum nickel cobalt) is a type of permanent magnet material that was first developed successfully in the 1930s. It is an alloy made up of aluminum, nickel, cobalt, iron, and trace metals.
Alnico magnets were widely used in permanent magnet motors at the time because of their excellent magnetic properties and low temperature coefficient. However, with the introduction of ferrite permanent magnets and rare earth permanent magnets in the 1960s, the use of aluminum nickel cobalt permanent magnets in motors has gradually been phased out.
